In these difficult times, LCI Barcelona has joined the LibreGuard project to fight against COVID-19. This 100% voluntary and non-profit initiative consists of the manufacture and distribution of free DIY masks so that health professionals can work more protected against the rapid spread of the virus.

Citlali Hernández and Andrés Costa (manager and collaborator of our TecnoFab, respectively) manufactured in just two days 370 visors with the laser cutter that we have at school. These units have been distributed as a kit together with PET sheets and double-sided tape for subsequent assembly in medical centers such as Hospital Clínic, Hospital de Sant Pau, Hospital Parc Taulí, Fundación El Maresme or Fundación Aspace Catalunya, among others.

We are very proud to be able to contribute to this maker initiative of which many professionals, labs and companies are part and which requires great logistical coordination of materials and production.

WHAT IS LIBREGUARD?

LibreGuard is an open source design developed by the La Deriva collective, of which the professor of our Official Master in Technological Product Design Raul Nieves is a member. As well as LCI Barcelona, the following digital manufacturing spaces, universities and companies also collaborate in its production: CODA, Rido, Melnik, XR66, AOE Plastics, Rajapack, TMDC, Escola Massana, Medio Design, Fabbercorp, Sumeplast, Digitall, A3Studio, BUIT taller, Plastics Sant Jordi, Fab Casa del Mig and Laser Project.

The initiative is being so successful that it has already reached countries like Argentina, Ecuador, Mexico and Chile, among many other regions.

COLLABORATE IN THE PROJECT!

The country's hospitals are running out of protection material for professionals working to care for those affected by COVID-19. LibreGuard is a very economic alternative (the cost in materials is 25 cents per unit) and sustainable (its manufacture hardly generates waste) to prevent the spread of the health and technical professionals who are experiencing this health emergency in first person.

Now, you can also collaborate in the project by helping to finance the material and transport of LibreGuard masks. Participate in the crowdfunding campaign launched by its promoters and help protect those people who day by day leave their skin taking care of those affected by the virus.
