Our campus hosted last Friday the ceremony of Felicidad Duce Award 2020 granted to the designer Teresa Helbig, who received the award from LCI Barcelona general director Sílvia Viudas. The jury, represented by Estel Vilaseca (head of Fashion area), highlighted "her passion for the profession, her contribution to the empowerment of women and her love for craftsmanship".

After the event, Teresa gave us an interview to review her career in the fashion world and to reflect on the present and future of the sector. The Barcelona designer receives the award in a year marked by COVID-19 pandemic in which the brand has faced new challenges. During these months, Teresa and her team have fulfilled the dream of creating a limited edition capsule collection for girls: "Petite Helbig".

Estel Vilaseca interviewed the designer to talk about her career

In an industry defined by the constant production and the frenetic pace of fashion weeks, Teresa Helbig is committed to sophisticated and timeless garments in which craftsmanship, haute couture techniques and a taste for detail, all inherited from her mother, are fundamental. 25 years after her first collection, "Capri", which is very special for her, she continues creating to claim the role of women. It is common to see her designs in presentations, red carpets and international events worn by personalities like Queen Letizia and actresses like Zendaya, Saoirse Ronan, Priyanka Chopra or Úrsula Corberó.

Teresa's career is an example of passion, perseverance and loyalty to some ideas that unite her with other women who have also achieved their goals, such as Felicidad Duce Ripollés. A pioneer ahead of her time, the founder of our Fashion School was a contemporary creative with a great business vision who became a reference within the sector. Through her educational work, based on design and professional pattern making, she contributed to the empowerment of Spanish women in the 20th century. Now, the award that bears her name and which has already received relevant figures such as Josep Font, Rosa Clará, Stephen Jones or Jean-Paul Gaultier recognizes the work of Teresa Helbig and her brand, born from "a mother and a daughter who share their love for sewing and their desire to fight".

Keep an eye on our networks because we will soon publish her interview!
