Last Friday, the first edition of our summer campus "Design & The City" ended. Young people aged between 14 and 18 came from different countries to be part of it. During the three weeks of the program they had their first contact with the world of design and, in addition, they knew different interesting places of the Catalan capital.
In the morning, the students attended classes on campus to acquire the basic notions of each discipline (fashion, graphic, product and interior) with our teachers, while the afternoons they carried out activities throughout the city in the company of a campus monitor. They attended workshops and conferences with experts from each sector, made routes through some of the most inspiring areas (El Born, the Gothic Quarter, the modernist constructions of Gaudí, the Passeig de Gràcia, the Encants, the Eixample, the Olympic Port, etc. ), visited ateliers, showrooms and studios of professional designers and discovered cultural and artistic locations such as MACBA - Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art, MNAC – Catalonia National Museum of Art, Disseny Hub Barcelona (which includes the center of materials Materfad) and the Space MOB - Makers Of Barcelona. On weekends, they visited the Poble Espanyol, La Roca Village and Sitges.
The participants, who had guidance and counseling at all times, were very satisfied with the experience. "These weeks we have learned how the real life of a designer is and all he does in his day to day, it has been very interesting", says Rebeca Rodríguez. About the activities, Gabriela Serrano highlights "the combination of cultural and tourist visits". For her part, Laura Gómez remembers the visit to the Materfad and states that "Barcelona is great, after the campus I am aware that I would like to live here someday". The farewell after twenty days together was moving, and they returned to their homes with their suitcase full of unforgettable memories.
